Privacy
Short version: our tools run in your browser, your files are not uploaded unless you turn on private sync, which locks them on your device first, and we do not use cookies to track you.
At a glance
The plain facts. Everything below explains them in full.
- Files stay on your deviceTools work in your browser. Files are not sent to our servers.
- No tracking cookiesNo advertising or tracking cookies, and no profile of you.
- No account neededEvery tool works without one. Accounts are optional.
- Counted, not watchedDaily totals only. File names, contents and what you type are never counted.
- Sync is locked firstEncrypted in your browser with a key only your devices hold.
- Never sold or sharedWe do not sell or share personal data.
Your files stay with you
The Snowkit tools do their work inside your browser. When you convert an image, merge a PDF or make a QR code, the file is processed on your own device and is not sent to our servers. Close the tab and it is gone.
What we count
We count page views so we know which tools are useful. This uses privacy-friendly analytics that set no cookies and do not build a profile of you. We see totals such as how many times a page was visited, the referring site and the rough country, not who you are.
When a tool finishes a job and you save the result, the page also tells our server which tool it was, such as "merge-pdf", so we know which tools people actually finish. It sends only the tool's name: no file, no file name, no settings and no cookie.
We also count the moments where Snowkit falls short, so we know what to fix next: searches that found nothing or where no result was chosen, questions Kitsune could not answer, pages that were not found, which tool suggestions were shown and picked, the kind of file (such as “image” or “pdf”) when no tool matched it, when a tool is first used, and short error codes. These counts carry no cookie and no identifier of any kind, and we do not store your IP address or browser details with them. Search text is cleaned on your device first, removing email addresses, links, long numbers and anything that looks like a key or password. We keep only daily totals, never a record of what one person did. Rare text is never shown to anyone: a search or question appears on our private dashboard only once it has come up at least 5 times within 28 days, and anything that does not is deleted after 28 days. Daily totals are kept for 13 months, then only monthly totals remain. File names, file contents and anything you type inside a tool are never counted.
What we do not do
- No account is ever needed to use a tool.
- No advertising or tracking cookies.
- No selling or sharing of personal data.
Accounts, if you choose one
Accounts are optional. You can sign in with a passkey, or with GitHub or Google. We never receive a password.
With a passkey, your device keeps the private part and we store only the matching public key, a name for it such as “Windows” or “iPhone”, and when it was added and last used. Your fingerprint, face or screen lock never leaves your device. If you give a name when you create an account with a passkey, we keep that name too.
If you sign in with GitHub or Google, we receive your name, your email address and an account identifier from that service. If you ask for a sign-in link by email, we use your address to send that link and to sign you in, and we keep a hashed copy of the link and of your IP address with the request so we can stop abuse. Each link works once and expires after 15 minutes.
You can change your display name and add a profile picture from your account page. The picture is made small on your device, cropped to a circle and stored with your account. Your name and picture are account details, not part of your encrypted sync: we store them as they are so they can show on every device where you sign in, and we never show them to anyone else. You can remove the picture at any time, and your initial shows instead.
We keep these details with your list of favourite tools, so your favourites follow you across devices. A single cookie keeps you signed in, a second one only tells the page to show your initial, and a third only tells it that you have a profile picture. None of them is used for tracking or advertising. You can sign out, or delete your account and everything stored with it, including your picture, at any time from your account page.
Sync, if you turn it on
Private sync is optional and stays off until you turn it on from your account page. It keeps your Library, Your Snowkit (your brand, signature, details and presets), your saved steps and your favourite tools the same on every device where you sign in. Files you only open in a tool are not synced; files you keep in your Library are.
Everything is locked on your device before it is saved, so even we can't open it. It is encrypted in your browser with a key that only your devices hold, and each Library file is encrypted on its own. Our servers store the encrypted data, your account ID, random IDs for each encrypted file, and when each part was saved and how big it is. We never see file names, types, tags or projects, and we can't read, scan or share what is inside.
Each account has a set amount of sync space. When it is full, new files stay on your device and simply wait; nothing is deleted.
A new device unlocks your sync with one of your passkeys or with your recovery key, which you see once when you turn sync on. If you lose every passkey and the recovery key, nobody can open the synced data, including us. Everything already saved on your devices keeps working, and you can turn sync off at any time, which deletes the synced copy from our servers.
Once sync is on, your favourite tools are kept only in the encrypted sync, and the plain list we stored before is deleted.
Payments, if you subscribe
A subscription for more sync space is paid through Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy collects your name, email address, billing country and payment details, and handles them under its own privacy policy. Snowkit never sees or stores your card or PayPal details. Lemon Squeezy tells us your Snowkit account ID, whether the subscription is active, when it renews or ends, and its own customer and subscription numbers, so we can switch it on and off. We keep these with your account and delete them when you delete your account.
Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive, if you use them
On some pages you can open a file from Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive, or save a result there. This only happens when you press that button and pick the account. The file goes straight between your browser and that service and never passes through Snowkit. The permission the service gives is kept only in the open page and is forgotten when you close it. What you keep in that service is covered by its own privacy policy.
Hosting
The site is served by a hosting and network provider that keeps standard technical logs, such as IP addresses, for a short time to deliver pages and protect the service from abuse.
What your browser remembers
To save you time, your browser keeps a few things in its own storage on your device: your light or dark choice, the settings you pick on your account page, the tools you saved, the tools you used recently, the names of files you saved recently, each tool's last settings, and the work you choose to keep, such as your Library, Your Snowkit, your saved steps and app documents. When you pass a finished file to the next tool, the file waits on your device for a moment and is removed as soon as the next tool opens it. It also remembers which suggestions to sync you have dismissed with “Not now”. Without an account none of this leaves your browser, and with one only what the sections above describe does.
This clears recent tools, recent file names, remembered settings, your chat with Kitsune and any file waiting to be passed on. Your theme, saved tools, saved steps and app documents stay.
Your Snowkit has its own Clear button on the Your Snowkit page, and each app can delete what it keeps.
If you write to us, we use your email only to reply. We keep the conversation as long as it is needed to help you, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
