Work on your files with commands, right in your browser

Batch your files on any computer by typing. Merge, compress, resize and convert a whole folder in one line. Nothing to install, nothing uploaded.

Files stay in this tab until you download them.

Snowkit Shell is a command line for your files that runs in your browser. Drop in PDFs, photos, Markdown, JSON or text, then type a command to change them. One line can handle a single file or a whole folder. Your files never leave this device. It is free.

How to use it, step by step

  1. Drop files on the window, or press Open files. They appear in the file list on the left. To try it first, press Try sample files.
  2. Type a command and press Enter, such as pdf merge *.pdf. Press Tab to finish a file name.
  3. New files appear in the list. Press the arrow next to one to download it, or Download all for a .zip.
  4. Press the up arrow to bring back an earlier command, change it, and run it again.

Do a whole folder in one line

Use * to pick many files at once. image resize *.jpg --width 1200 resizes every photo, and pdf rotate scan-*.pdf --angle 90 turns every scan.

Work on a real folder

In Chrome and Edge on a computer, press Open a folder or type mount. The files in that folder appear in the list, and every new file you make is saved straight into it, so there is nothing to download. Snowkit remembers the folder for next time. Type umount to stop.

Big batches

A long batch shows its progress as it goes, such as Resizing 37 of 200. Press Ctrl+C to stop it. Files that were already finished stay in your list.

Chain steps together

Use | to pass the result of one command to the next. pdf merge *.pdf | pdf extract --pages 1-5 merges the files and keeps the first five pages. Use > to save text to a file, as in text dedupe emails.txt > clean.txt.

Ask in plain words

Not sure of a command? Type ask and what you want, such as ask make these photos 1200 wide. The Shell types the right command in for you to check before you press Enter.

Share and repeat

share copies a link that opens the Shell with your command typed in, so a friend can run it on their own files. Only the command is in the link, never your files. run steps.txt runs a list of commands, and export saves your session as a script for your own computer.

The same commands on your computer

Most PDF, Markdown, QR, JSON, SQL, text, colour and cron commands match the free Snowkit command line. Once a command works here, run it on your own computer with npx snowkit in front.

Privacy

Your files are opened in your browser's memory and never uploaded. Close the tab and they are gone, unless you download them.

Questions

Do I need to know the command line?

No. Every command here also has a normal Snowkit tool with buttons, such as Merge PDF or Image converter. The Shell is for people who like typing, or who want to do many files at once.

Can I break anything?

No. Your original files are never changed. Every command makes new files, and nothing replaces an existing file unless you add --overwrite. That stays true when you open a real folder.

How do I see all the commands?

Type help, or open the commands.txt tab at the top of the window.

Where to next

Carry on with what you just made, still on your device.
