Query your data with SQL, right in your browser

Open a SQLite database, or drop in CSV and JSON files and each one becomes a table.

SQL playground

A full SQLite engine running on this device.

Drop files here

SQLite (.db, .sqlite), CSV, TSV or JSON. Drop several to join them. Each CSV or JSON file becomes a table.

Write SQL, see results instantly, join files together, and export what you find. A full SQLite engine runs on this device. Open a SQLite database, or drop in CSV and JSON files and each one becomes a table. Your data never leaves this device. It is free.

How to query your data, step by step

  1. Press Open files, or drop SQLite (.db, .sqlite), CSV, TSV or JSON files on the page. Load example data shows how it works, and Start empty gives a blank database.
  2. Pick a table in Tables to see its first rows.
  3. Write your query in the Query box and press Run, or use Ctrl+Enter.
  4. Read the Results. Use Results as CSV to export them.
  5. Press Database to download the whole database if you changed it.

What this tool does

The SQL playground runs SQLite, the world's most used database engine, inside your browser. Open a database file to browse and query it, or turn spreadsheets and JSON exports into tables you can filter, group, sort and join with plain SQL.

CSV and JSON as tables

Each CSV, TSV or JSON file becomes a table named after the file. Column names are cleaned up, and numbers are detected so sums, averages and sorting work as expected. Nested JSON objects become columns like user_name, and arrays are kept as JSON text.

Examples

Find your best customers with SELECT customer, SUM(total) FROM orders GROUP BY customer ORDER BY 2 DESC, or combine two exports with a JOIN. Create tables, insert and update rows, then download the whole database as a .sqlite file.

Good uses

  • Answering questions about a large spreadsheet that is slow to filter by hand.
  • Joining two exports, such as orders and customers, on a shared column.
  • Learning SQL with real data and instant feedback.
  • Checking a database file from an app or a backup.
  • Cleaning a CSV with queries, then exporting the result. The CSV cleaner is a simpler option for common fixes.

To tidy a long query, use the SQL formatter.

Privacy

Your files are opened in your browser's memory and never uploaded. Close the tab and everything is gone, unless you download the database.

Questions

How big can the files be?

Files of tens of megabytes work well on most computers. Everything is held in memory, so very large databases need a desktop browser with plenty of RAM.

Which SQL does it support?

Full SQLite: joins, subqueries, window functions, common table expressions, JSON functions and more.

Are my changes saved?

Only if you download the database. Changes stay in this tab until then.

Can I query more than one file at once?

Yes. Drop several files and each becomes a table, so you can join them.

Where to next

Carry on with what you just made, still on your device.
