Brand Starter

Version 1.0.0

A brand is the set of decisions that make your business look and sound like itself every time: what you say, how you say it, which logo goes where, which colours and fonts you use. This kit gives a small team a fill-in brand guide, ready-to-use design tokens with checked contrast, a logo usage sheet you can print or share, and the checklists and size tables you need when you export everything.

Who it's for

  • Founders and small teams setting up a brand for the first time
  • Teams who have a logo but no written rules, and keep getting inconsistent results
  • Developers who need brand colours and type as real CSS and JSON, not a PDF
  • Freelancers handing a finished identity over to a client

You don't need a designer to use it, although a designer will get more out of it.

How to use it in 5 minutes

  1. Open brand-guide-template.md and fill in section 1, purpose and positioning. Everything else follows from it.
  2. Copy the tokens/ folder into your project and link colors.css and typography.css before your own stylesheet.
  3. Swap the example brand colours for yours, then re-check contrast using the table in tokens/README.md.
  4. Open logo-usage.html in a browser, replace the placeholder mark with your logo, and save it as a PDF for your team.
  5. Work through brand-checklist.md before you announce the brand, using social-sizes.md for exports.

If you are still choosing a name, start with naming-worksheet.md.

A note on limits

The example palette passes WCAG AA for the pairs listed in tokens/README.md. Once you change a colour, those numbers no longer apply, so check again. Platform image sizes change often; confirm them before a launch. The naming worksheet and checklist mention trademarks, but they are not legal advice, and a professional search is the only reliable check.
