Every article, every deadline

Open the spreadsheet you already keep your articles in. See what is late and what is due this week, update it, and save it back to the same file.

Your articles

Open your articles spreadsheet

Excel, OpenDocument or CSV, with a row for each article. Drop it anywhere on this page

The article tracker turns the spreadsheet you already keep your writing jobs in into a clear deadline board. It works in your browser, so your list of clients, fees and deadlines is never uploaded.

How to use it, step by step

  1. Press Choose a spreadsheet and open your list of articles. It can be an Excel, OpenDocument or CSV file. Press Try an example to see how it works first.
  2. Check Columns. The tracker finds the title, client, due date, status, words, rate, invoiced and paid columns from their names, and you can change any of them.
  3. Work from the Due list: late work comes first, then today, this week and later. Change a status, or mark an article invoiced or paid, and today's date goes in.
  4. Press Invoice on an article to open the invoice maker with the client and fee filled in.
  5. Press Save spreadsheet to save the same file with your changes.

Your layout stays as it is

When you save an Excel file, only the cells you changed are rewritten. Your other sheets, colours, column widths, formulas and number formats stay exactly as they were, so the file still works with everything else you use it for. A CSV file is saved as CSV with the same columns. An older .xls or .ods file is saved as a new .xlsx file.

Per-word rates

If your rate column is a per-word rate, such as 0.40, the fee is worked out from the word count. A column called something like Rate per word is always read that way.

Questions

Is my spreadsheet uploaded?

No. It is read and saved by your browser, on this device. Snowkit never sees your clients or your fees.

What counts as filed?

Statuses such as Filed, Submitted, Sent, Published or Done move an article to Filed, so the Due list only shows work still to write.

Does it remember my file?

No. Open the spreadsheet each time and save it when you are done, so your own copy is always the one that counts. For a running record of what you earn, use the freelance income tracker.

Where to next

Carry on with what you just made, still on your device.
