Drop in CSV, cells copied from a spreadsheet, a pipe table or columns lined up with spaces, and get a clean table. The delimiter and header row are worked out for you, and you can copy the result as a Markdown table, HTML, CSV or a LaTeX tabular. Your data stays on this device. It is free.

How to make a table, step by step

  1. Paste your data into the Your text box.
  2. Check the Columns split by setting. Detect automatically works for most data, or choose Commas, Tabs, Semicolons, Pipes or Spaces.
  3. Set whether the First row is a header, and choose the Alignment.
  4. Check the Preview, then pick Markdown, HTML, CSV or LaTeX.
  5. Press Copy or Download.

What you can paste

Comma or semicolon separated CSV (quoted cells with commas or line breaks inside are handled), tab-separated cells copied straight out of Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers, existing Markdown pipe tables, and plain text where columns are lined up with two or more spaces, such as terminal output.

Header and alignment

If the first row is all text and the rows below hold numbers, it is treated as the header. You can override that. In Markdown and HTML, number columns are right-aligned so digits line up; pick an alignment to apply the same to every column instead.

Using the LaTeX output

The tabular uses only \hline, so it works without extra packages. Special characters such as &, %, $ and _ are escaped. Wrap it in a table environment to add a caption.

Where each format is useful

  • Markdown tables work in README files, wikis, notes apps and many forums.
  • HTML tables go into web pages and email templates.
  • CSV is for spreadsheets and databases.
  • LaTeX is for papers, theses and reports.

Who uses it

Students preparing reports, developers writing documentation, writers adding a table to a post, and office staff turning a spreadsheet range into something to paste into a document. To tidy a messy CSV first, use the CSV cleaner, and to see data as a chart, try CSV to chart.

Questions

Can I copy cells straight from a spreadsheet?

Yes. Copy the cells and paste them in. Tab-separated data is detected automatically.

Why are my columns not splitting?

Choose the delimiter yourself under Columns split by. Use Spaces if your columns are lined up with spaces.

Is my data uploaded?

No. The table is built in your browser.

Where to next

Carry on with what you just made, still on your device.
