QR codes for chats and payments, checked before you save

Make a code that opens a WhatsApp chat with you, or one that fills in your wallet address and an amount, and see it read back correctly before you print it.

New QR code

Phone number

Country code first, then the number. Spaces, dashes and a leading 0 are fine; they are tidied for you.

The message is filled in for the person who scans; they can change it before sending.

    Error correction

Higher correction survives scratches and dirt but makes the code denser.

Make a QR code that opens a WhatsApp chat with you, or one that fills in your wallet address and an amount, and see it read back correctly before you print it. The code is made on this device and read back by the same kind of scanner a phone uses, so you know it works before anyone scans it. It is free.

How to make a WhatsApp QR code, step by step

    1. Choose WhatsApp chat.
    2. Type the Phone number, country code first. Spaces, dashes and a leading 0 are tidied for you.
    3. Add a First message if you want one. It is filled in for the person who scans, and they can change it before sending.
    4. Press Test it to open the chat link yourself.
    5. Choose the colours and error correction, pick a PNG size or SVG, and press Download PNG.

How to make a crypto payment QR code

    1. Choose Crypto payment and pick the Coin: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Litecoin, Dogecoin, or Other coin for an address only.
    2. Paste your Receiving address and check every character against your wallet.
    3. Add an Amount, Label and Message if you like, or leave the amount empty so the payer chooses.
    4. Download the code as a PNG or SVG.

    How the WhatsApp code works

The code holds a wa.me link with your full international number, such as https://wa.me/447911123456. Scanning it opens WhatsApp with a chat to that number, and your first message, if you add one, is typed in ready to send. The number must be one that has a WhatsApp account. Use Test it to open the link yourself before you print.

    How the crypto code works

For Bitcoin, Litecoin and Dogecoin the code uses the standard payment link (BIP 21), with an optional amount, label and message. Ethereum uses EIP-681, where the amount is written in wei, the smallest unit, worked out exactly from the ETH you enter. Solana uses the Solana Pay format. Choose Address only for any other coin; the code then holds just the address, which every wallet can read.

    What the address check catches

Bitcoin, Litecoin and Dogecoin addresses carry a built-in checksum, so a mistyped character is caught. Ethereum addresses written with mixed capital letters are checked against their EIP-55 checksum. Solana addresses are checked for the right alphabet and length. None of this proves the address belongs to you or is on the right network, so always compare it with your wallet, and send a small test payment before relying on a printed code. Payments cannot be reversed, and a printed QR code cannot be changed later.

    Printing and scanning tips

Keep the code dark on a light background with plenty of contrast, and leave the white border around it. Print it at least 2 cm (about 1 inch) wide for close scanning, larger for posters. Choose higher error correction for codes that may get scuffed, such as table stickers; Low is 7%, Medium 15%, High 25% and Highest 30%, and higher levels make the code denser. The SVG file stays sharp at any size and suits print shops. The PNG comes in 256, 512, 1024 or 2048 pixel squares.

    Who uses it

Small businesses put a WhatsApp code on a shop window, a van or a business card so customers can message them. Freelancers add one to a portfolio. Creators and sellers who accept crypto put a payment code on an invoice or a stall. For other kinds of codes, such as links, Wi-Fi and contact cards, use the QR code generator or the QR designer.

    Privacy

The code is made in your browser. Your phone number, wallet address and messages are not sent to a server.

    Questions

Can I put an amount in a crypto QR code?

Yes. Add an Amount, or leave it empty. Wallets treat it as a suggestion that the payer confirms.

Does the WhatsApp number need a plus sign?

No. Type the country code first and then the number. The tool tidies the rest.

    Will the code stop working?

The code holds the link or address itself, so it keeps working. A printed code cannot be changed, so check it carefully first.

    Where to next

Carry on with what you just made, still on your device.
