Point your camera at a QR code, or choose a photo or screenshot, and see where it leads before anything opens. You see the full link, with a clear warning for shortened or look-alike addresses. Wi-Fi details and contact cards are laid out field by field, ready to copy. It is free, and your pictures never leave this device.
How to scan a QR code, step by step
- Press Scan with camera and allow camera access, or press Choose an image. You can also drop a picture on the page or paste a screenshot.
- Hold the code steady in view. Use Torch in low light and Switch camera if you want the other camera.
- Read what the code contains. A link shows its full address with the real website name in bold.
- Press Copy text, Open link or Save contact as needed, or Scan another.
Check a QR code before you trust it
A QR code can point anywhere, and the pattern gives no hint of where. Fake parking meter stickers and flyers use codes that lead to copycat payment pages. Here you see the full address first, with the real website name in bold. You get a warning when the address uses a link shortener that hides its destination, look-alike letters, a misspelled brand name, an @ sign that disguises the real site, or a bare IP address.
Links never open by themselves. Open one only when the website name is the one you expect.
Wi-Fi, contacts, events and more
Wi-Fi codes show the network name, security type and password, each with a copy button. Contact cards in vCard or MeCard format are split into name, phone, email and address, and you can save them as a .vcf file for your address book. Calendar events, email, text message, phone and map codes are laid out the same way.
Tips for a good scan
- Fill the frame with the code, but keep all four corners in view.
- Avoid glare on shiny surfaces. Tilt the code slightly if a reflection gets in the way.
- For a code on another screen, use a screenshot and choose it as an image.
- Never enter a password or payment details on a page you reached from a code you are unsure about.
History
You can keep a history of scans on this device. It is saved only in this browser, is never sent anywhere, and can be cleared at any time.
Private by design
Pictures and camera frames are read inside your browser. Where your browser has a built-in barcode reader it is used, and a reader built into this page works everywhere else. The camera needs your permission and stops when you leave the page. The scan history lives only in this browser's storage. To read product barcodes, use the barcode scanner.
Questions
Does the link open automatically?
No. Nothing opens until you choose to.
Can it scan a code from a screenshot?
Yes. Paste or choose the screenshot and it is read the same way.
Why does it warn about a link?
The address uses a shortener, look-alike letters, an @ sign, an IP address or a name that resembles a known brand. Check it carefully before you open it.
