Captions are checked on your device. Nothing you type is sent anywhere. Paste a social media caption and see how it fits each platform's length limits, tidy the hashtags and copy the finished text. It is free and private.
How to check a caption
- Paste or type your caption into Your caption, or press Try an example.
- Choose the Platforms you are posting to and see the character counts and warnings for each.
- Look at the preview to see where each platform hides the rest of the text.
- Under Hashtags, add tags with Hashtags to add and Add hashtags, tick Move hashtags to the end, or tick Remove repeated hashtags.
- Copy the caption, or use Copy hashtags only.
Limits that matter
Each platform has a hard limit and a softer one. The hard limit is the most it will accept, such as 2,200 characters on Instagram or 280 on X. The soft limit is how much shows before the rest hides behind more, which is often only the first line or two. Put the hook in that first part.
Tips for better captions
- Lead with the most important sentence. Many people never tap more.
- Keep hashtags relevant and few. Specific tags tend to work better than general ones.
- Use line breaks to make longer captions easy to scan.
- Put links and calls to action where they will be seen, and check the character count afterwards.
- Reuse a strong caption on several platforms, adjusting the length for each.
Who uses it
Small business owners and freelancers planning posts, community managers, and students running a club account. To plan posts across a month, try the content calendar, and to add captions to a video use burn in captions.
Questions
Why does X count differently?
X counts every link as 23 characters however long it is, and counts most emoji and Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters as two. The checker uses the same rules, so the number matches what X shows.
How many hashtags should I use?
Instagram allows 30, YouTube ignores all of them if there are more than 15, and Threads allows one topic tag. On most platforms a few specific hashtags work better than many general ones, so the checker warns when a caption has a lot.
Do line breaks survive?
Yes, on all the platforms listed. The preview shows your caption with its line breaks and the point where each platform hides the rest. Instagram also hides everything after the second line break, which the preview takes into account.
Is my caption saved?
Your draft is kept on this device so it is still here if you close the tab. Clear the box to remove it.
Does it post for me?
No. It only checks and tidies the text. You copy it and post it yourself.
