How the draft is written
The letter follows the shape most hiring managers expect: why you are writing, two of your strongest achievements, the skills that fit the job, and a short close. When you paste the job post, the achievements and skills that share the most words with it are picked first. Everything in the draft comes from what you typed, so nothing is invented.
Make it yours
Treat the draft as a starting point and edit it in place. Add a line about why this company in particular, and replace any general phrase with a specific example. Keep it to one page, about 250 to 350 words. If your browser has a built-in writing model, you can ask it to make the letter more formal, warmer or shorter, on your device.
Using it with your resume
If you made your resume with the resume builder, Use my resume fills in your name, latest job, achievements and skills. From the resume keyword match, Write a cover letter for this job brings the job post along too. Save the letter as PDF for most applications, or as Word when the employer asks for it.
Tips for a strong cover letter
- Address a real person when you can. Check the job post or the company website for a name.
- Use numbers in your achievements, such as time saved, customers served or sales made.
- Mirror the wording of the job post where it is honest to do so.
- Proofread twice, then read it aloud. Mistakes in names and dates are the easiest to miss.
- Send a PDF unless the employer asks for another format, so your layout stays intact.
