Mark up a PDF, right on the page

Highlight and strike through text, draw freehand, and add notes, boxes, circles and arrows, with a mouse, a pen or your finger.

Mark up a PDF

Open a PDF to mark up

or drop it anywhere on this page

Highlight and strike through text, draw freehand, and add notes, boxes, circles and arrows to a PDF, with a mouse, a pen or your finger. Save the marks as real comments that other PDF apps can edit, or flatten them into the page. It is free, and your file never leaves this device.

How to mark up a PDF, step by step

  1. Open the PDF by dropping it on the page or pressing Choose a PDF.
  2. Pick a tool, a colour and a Size: Fine, Medium or Bold.
  3. Drag on a page to highlight, draw or place a mark. Use Select to tap a mark to move or delete it, and double-tap a note to edit it.
  4. Under Save as, choose Editable comments or Part of the page.
  5. Press Download marked-up PDF.

Every markup tool you need

Highlight and strike-through snap to the lines of text you drag across, so marks look neat even on dense pages. Draw freehand with a mouse, trackpad, stylus or finger. Add text notes, boxes, circles and arrows to point things out. Pick a colour and a size before you start, or select a mark and change it afterwards.

Editable comments or part of the page

Editable comments are saved as standard PDF annotations, the same kind Adobe Acrobat and Apple Preview create, so anyone you send the file to can move, change or remove them. Choose part of the page when the marks should stay exactly as they are, for example on a signed form or a marked exam.

Tips for clear feedback

  • Use one colour for each kind of comment, such as yellow for questions and green for approval.
  • Keep notes short and put them next to the text they refer to.
  • Use arrows to link a note to a figure or a number.
  • Save as editable comments if the author will make changes, and as part of the page for a final copy.

Who uses it

Students mark up readings and past papers. Teachers return feedback on assignments. Office teams review contracts, proposals and drawings, and freelancers send comments back to clients. To fill in or sign a form, use sign PDF, and to change the text itself use edit PDF.

Privacy

Your PDF is opened and saved in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and the file is gone from this page when you close it.

Questions

Can I remove a mark later?

Yes, as long as it was saved as an editable comment. Marks saved as part of the page are fixed.

Does it work on a tablet with a pen?

Yes. Draw with a stylus or finger just as you would with a mouse.

Will it change the original file?

No. You download a new copy.
