How to sign a PDF

Open your PDF and choose Signature. Draw it with your mouse, finger or stylus, type your name and pick a style, or upload a photo of your signature. A photo or scan of your signature on white paper works best. It appears on the page you are viewing, where you can drag it into place and resize it from the corner. Then download the signed PDF.

Filling in PDF forms

If the PDF has fillable fields, they are highlighted so you can click and type straight into them, tick boxes and pick from lists. For forms without fields, such as a scanned page, use Text to type anywhere on the page, and Check mark to tick boxes.

By default the filled fields are locked into the page when you download, so the answers cannot be changed by accident. Untick that option to keep the form editable.

Is this a legal signature?

In many countries a typed or drawn signature on a document is accepted as an electronic signature for everyday agreements such as leases, permission slips and work forms. Some documents need a certified digital signature or a wet signature instead, so check with whoever asked you to sign if you are unsure.

Tips

  • Save a signature as an image on white paper once, then upload it each time you need it.
  • Use Today's date to add the date in a standard format.
  • Use Initials for pages that need them.
  • Check the finished PDF before you send it.

To add your own fields to a blank PDF, use make PDF fillable. To mark up a PDF with comments, use the PDF annotator.
