Codes and printing

Download the code list with the PDF so they match.

Design a voucher in your colours, print a batch with a unique code and QR code on each, and keep a CSV of every code to check them off when they are used. Codes are made with your browser's secure random generator and kept on this device. Nothing is uploaded. It is free.

How to make vouchers, step by step

  1. Press Try an example to see a finished voucher, or fill in your own.
  2. Under The voucher, enter the Heading, the Value or offer, your Business, the Valid until date, and a Message and terms. You can add a Logo and choose a Colour.
  3. Choose what the QR code opens: the code itself, a web page with the code, or no QR code.
  4. Under Codes and printing, choose How many, an optional Code prefix, the Code style and the Voucher size and Paper.
  5. Download the PDF and the Code list together so they match.

Vouchers you can keep track of

Every voucher in a batch gets its own code. Random codes use letters and digits that are easy to read aloud, leave out look-alikes such as 0 and O, and end with a check character, so a mistyped code is easy to spot. The CSV lists every code with its value and expiry date; open it in a spreadsheet and mark each one as used.

Tips for vouchers that work

  • State the value or offer clearly, and add an expiry date.
  • Say how to redeem it and what it cannot be exchanged for.
  • Use random codes for anything with money value.
  • Keep the CSV safe and mark codes as used when they are redeemed.
  • Print on thick paper or card so the voucher feels worth giving.

Who uses it

Small shops and salons making gift cards, cafes and restaurants running a promotion, schools and clubs preparing raffle prizes, and anyone giving a gift of an experience. For your own barcodes, see the barcode generator, and for event tickets and flyers, the flyer maker.

Questions

What does the QR code do?

By default it holds the code itself, so any phone camera or scanner shows it for you to check. Choose a web page instead to open your shop with the code filled in, for example yourshop.com/redeem?code={code}.

Will the codes change if I edit the design?

No. The codes stay the same while you change the wording or colours, and are kept on this device. They only change when you press New codes or change how many, the prefix or the style. Download the CSV together with the PDF so they match.

How do I print and cut them?

Print the PDF at 100% on thick paper or card. Crop marks show where to cut. DL vouchers fit an envelope, A6 is postcard size, and card size fits a wallet.

Are sequential numbers safe?

Numbered codes are easy to sort but also easy to guess, so use them for things like raffle tickets or loyalty cards. For anything with money value, keep the random codes.
