Crop one page, every page, or just the odd or even ones, then download the PDF. Cut away margins, borders and scanner edges in your browser, free and private.

How to crop a PDF

Open your PDF and drag a box over the area you want to keep. Choose whether the box applies to this page, every page, or only odd or even pages, which is handy for scanned books where left and right pages have different margins. Press Use this box, check the thumbnails, and download.

  1. Press Choose a PDF, or drop it onto the page.
  2. Drag a box over the part of the page to keep.
  3. Under Apply to, choose This page, All, Odd or Even.
  4. Press Use this box and check the thumbnails.
  5. Press Download PDF. If you change your mind, use Undo crop on these pages.

Trim white margins automatically

Trim white margins draws each page, finds where the text and pictures start and end, and crops to that area with a small margin you can set. It works page by page, so pages with different layouts each get their own crop. It is ideal for reading papers and slides on a phone or e-reader.

What cropping changes

Cropping changes the visible area of each page by setting its crop box and media box. The content outside the box is hidden rather than deleted, so the file stays sharp and its text stays searchable. If you need to remove something for good, use a redaction tool instead.

Tips for good results

  • Leave a small margin around the text so nothing is cut off at the edge.
  • For scanned books, crop odd and even pages separately, since the inner margin switches sides.
  • Use the automatic trim first, then adjust single pages by hand where needed.
  • Check the last thumbnail and any pages with page numbers or footnotes before you download.
  • For other changes, such as removing pages, try the edit PDF tool.

Common uses

  • Reading journal articles and slides on a small screen without wasted margins.
  • Removing a black border from a scan.
  • Cutting a single table or figure out of a page for a report.
  • Preparing pages for printing at a larger size.

Private by design

Your PDF is cropped in your browser and is never uploaded.

Questions

Does cropping make the file smaller?

Not much. The hidden content stays inside the file, so the size barely changes.

Can I remove private information by cropping?

No. The cropped content is only hidden, so it can be recovered. Use a redaction tool for anything private.

Does it reduce text quality?

No. The text stays sharp and searchable.
