It's the Pomodoro method: simple, proven, and kinder to your attention than working until you're worn out. Work in short focused sessions with breaks in between, free and with no account.
How to use the focus timer
- Type what you are working on in What are you working on?
- Check the Minutes for Focus, Short break and Long break.
- Press Start and work on one thing until the timer ends.
- Under When a session ends, choose Play a chime, Show a notification, or both.
- Use Skip to move to the next stage, and Reset to start the session again.
How the Pomodoro method works
Pick one task. Work on it for 25 minutes without switching. Take a 5 minute break. Repeat, and after four focus sessions take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes. The short, fixed sessions make it easier to start, and the breaks stop tiredness from building up. The timer shows how many sessions remain until the long break.
Make it yours
Change the minutes to suit the work. Many people prefer 50 minutes of focus with a 10 minute break for deep work, or 15 and 3 when a task feels hard to start. Your settings and today's count are remembered in this browser.
Tips for better focus
- Decide what you will do before you press Start.
- Put your phone out of reach, and close tabs you do not need.
- If a thought pops up, write it on paper and go back to the task.
- Really step away on breaks. Stretch, get water, look out of a window.
- Count finished sessions to see how much you got done.
Who uses it
Students revising for exams, writers and remote workers, and anyone who finds it hard to start. For a large screen countdown in a group setting, use the classroom timer.

Questions
Does it work in the background?
Keep the tab open. The chime or notification tells you when a session ends.
Why does it ask to show notifications?
It uses them only to tell you a session has ended. You can use the chime instead.
Can I change the lengths?
Yes. Set the minutes for focus, short break and long break.
