Trim, crop and rotate a clip, speed it up, slow it down or play it backwards, then add music and a caption and save an MP4. Open a video, choose your edits and select Make video. The original file is not changed and nothing is uploaded. It is free.

How to edit a video, step by step

  1. Press Choose a video, or drop an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV file on the page.
  2. Set the Start and End times. Pause the video and press Use current to take the time you are looking at.
  3. Choose a Crop, a Rotate setting and a Speed. Tick Play backwards if you want it reversed.
  4. Set the Sound level, add Music, or add Text with a Position, Size and Style.
  5. Pick an Export size (480p, 720p, 1080p or Original), press Make video, then Download.

What you can change

  • Trim by setting a start and end time, or pause the video and use the current time.
  • Crop to square, 9:16 for Reels, TikTok and Shorts, 16:9 for YouTube or 4:5 for feeds. The middle of the picture is kept.
  • Rotate a sideways phone video and mirror it if a selfie camera flipped it.
  • Speed from a quarter speed slow motion to four times faster, and play it backwards.
  • Music loops under the whole video and fades out at the end. Turn the original sound down or off to hear only the music.
  • Text adds a caption or title at the top, middle or bottom, on every frame.

How long it takes

Every frame is decoded, edited and encoded again by your browser, using the graphics hardware when it can. A one-minute 720p clip usually takes about a minute on a laptop and longer on a phone. Playing backwards is limited to clips of up to three minutes after trimming, because the frames are held in memory while they are reversed. Smaller export sizes are quicker to make and to share.

Tips for good results

  • Trim first, so you do not wait for parts you will not keep.
  • Keep voices natural when you change the speed, so they do not sound like chipmunks.
  • Use a large text size and a clear style, so captions are easy to read on a phone.
  • Choose 720p for quick shares and 1080p when quality matters.
  • Keep the tab open while it works.

Who uses it

Creators making short clips, teachers trimming a lesson, small businesses adding a title to a product video, and families tidying holiday videos. To join clips, use merge videos. To remove the sound only, try mute video, and for a different file type, the video converter.

Private by design

Your video is never uploaded. The editing happens in this tab, the result is offered straight from memory, and there is no watermark.
