Hide personal details from AI, then put them back

Replace names, email addresses, phone numbers and other details with labels like [PERSON_1] before you paste text into an AI. Paste the reply back here and the real values return.

Hide, then restore

2Put them back

With the real details

Replace names, email addresses, phone numbers and other details with labels like [PERSON_1] before you paste text into an AI assistant. Paste the reply back here and the real values return. Everything happens in this tab, and your text and the key are never uploaded or stored, unless you save the key yourself. It is free.

How to hide and restore details, step by step

  1. Paste your text into Your text, or press Try an example.
  2. List any names or company names to hide in Names and words to hide, separated by commas.
  3. Choose what else to hide, and press Copy safe text.
  4. Paste the safe text into your AI assistant and ask your question.
  5. Paste the reply into The AI's reply box. The restored text appears with the real details.
  6. Press Copy restored text or Download .txt.

How it works

Each detail found in your text is swapped for a label, and the same value always gets the same label, so the AI can still follow who did what: "[PERSON_1] emailed [EMAIL_1] about order [NUMBER_1]". The key, a list of labels and the real values, stays in this tab. When you paste the AI's reply back, every label it used is replaced with the real value again.

Keeping the key

The key disappears when you close or reload the tab. To finish later or to hide a follow-up message with the same labels, choose Save key; it downloads a small file to your device. Open it here next time with Open a saved key and new details continue the numbering, so [PERSON_1] stays the same person. Keep that file private: it contains the real values.

What it finds

Email addresses, phone numbers, card and account numbers, ID numbers, IP addresses, API keys and long numbers are found by their patterns. Names and company names have no fixed pattern, so add them to the list. Always read the safe text before pasting it.

Good uses

  • Asking an assistant to rewrite or summarise an email without sharing who it is about.
  • Getting help with a customer complaint or a contract while keeping names out.
  • Working with a log or a data file that includes private values.
  • Drafting a reply that you then fill in with the real names.

Questions

What if the AI changes a label?

With the rewrite option on, labels written a little differently, such as [person 1], [PERSON 1] or PERSON_1, are restored too. Labels that are not in the key are left as they are and listed, so nothing is guessed.

Will it find every name?

Names have no fixed pattern, so add the ones that matter to the list. Always read the safe text before pasting it.

Does the AI see anything private?

Only what is left in the safe text. The labels carry no information about the real values.

How is this different from Redact text?

Redact text removes details for good. This tool keeps a key so you can put them back into the answer you get.

Where to next

Carry on with what you just made, still on your device.
