The timer runs in this tab, needs no account and keeps time even if the tab is in the background. A big, clear countdown or stopwatch for lessons, meetings, workouts and group activities, free and private.

How to use the timer

  1. Choose Count down or Count up.
  2. Type what the time is for, such as Group work, in What the time is for.
  3. Pick a preset (1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20 or 30 min), or set Your own time with Minutes and Seconds.
  4. Press Start. Press Full screen to fill the display.
  5. Press Reset to go back to the beginning.

Using it in class

Type what the time is for, such as Group work or Tidy up, choose a preset or set your own minutes and seconds, then press Start and Full screen. On a projector or a big screen the numbers fill the display. In the last minute they turn orange, in the last ten seconds red, and the screen flashes gently when time is up.

Keyboard controls

Space starts and pauses, R resets, F switches full screen on and off, and the up and down arrows add or take away a minute while it runs. Press a number from 1 to 9 to set that many minutes straight away, which is handy with a presenter remote or a wireless keyboard.

Counting up

Count up works like a stopwatch, for timing a presentation or a reading. The chime can be switched off for quiet rooms, and your last time and label are remembered for next time on this device.

Ideas for using a timer

  • Short bursts of 5 or 10 minutes keep group work focused and moving.
  • Set a countdown for tidy up time, transitions and quiet reading.
  • Time practice presentations and speeches with Count up.
  • Run a work sprint with a fixed time and a short break afterwards, or use the focus timer.
  • Use it for cooking, stretching, interval workouts and board game turns.

Who uses it

Teachers, tutors and workshop leaders, students sharing a screen in a study group, and small teams running timed meetings.
