Expenses and receipt files are kept in this browser on this device. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account. Record what you spend, keep the receipts together, and produce a clean report for tax time or your accountant. It is free and private.
How to record an expense
- Press Read the receipt and choose a photo or PDF to fill in the amount, date, shop and tax, or type the details yourself.
- Fill in the Date, Paid to, Category, Total paid, Tax included, Currency and an optional Note.
- Press Add expense.
- Filter the list by month or category with All months and All categories.
- Open Totals to see spending by category and month.
- Use the Actions to download a CSV or a PDF report in A4 or Letter. Remove deletes an expense.
Reading receipts on your device
Press Read the receipt and the amount, date, shop and tax are filled in for you to check. Photos are read by a text reader that runs in your browser; PDF receipts are read from the text inside them. Always check the numbers before you add the expense.
Reports your accountant can use
The CSV has one row per expense with the date, who you paid, the category, the amount, the tax and the currency, ready for a spreadsheet or accounting software. The PDF report lists the expenses for the month you pick, totals by category, and every receipt on its own page after the list.
Categories and currencies
Pick a category for each expense, such as travel, meals or software, and change it at any time. Totals are shown by category and by month, and amounts in different currencies are added up separately, so nothing is converted behind your back.
Tips for tidy records
- Photograph receipts the same day. Paper fades, and thermal receipts can turn blank within months.
- Record the tax separately so it is ready when you need it.
- Use consistent category names throughout the year.
- Download a CSV backup each month, since the ledger lives in this browser.
- Check with your tax office about how long you need to keep records where you live.
Who uses it
Freelancers and sole traders, small business owners, side hustlers, and families keeping track of a shared budget. To record what comes in, see the income tracker, and to bill clients, the invoice maker.
