Compress PDF
Make scanned and image-heavy PDFs smaller in your browser.
What it does
Make scanned and image-heavy PDFs smaller in your browser. Choose a compression level and compare the old and new size. Free, nothing uploaded.
Most of the size of a large PDF is usually its pictures, such as scanned pages and photos. This tool makes the file smaller by redrawing each page as an image at the resolution you choose and saving it as a compressed JPG. That works well for scans and photo-heavy documents, often cutting the size by half or more.
It has a real cost, so it is worth knowing before you use it: the text becomes part of the picture and can no longer be selected, searched or copied, and links, bookmarks and form fields are removed. A PDF that is mostly text may even get larger. The tool shows the old and new sizes side by side, and if a file cannot be made smaller, it says so and your original stays the result.
