What it does

Make strong passwords or easy-to-type passphrases with your browser's secure random numbers, and see the strength in bits. Never stored or sent.

Passwords are built from your browser's cryptographic random number generator, with no bias between characters. Pick the length and the kinds of characters, and leave out characters that are easy to confuse when you read a password aloud or type it from paper. At least one character of every kind you choose is included.

A passphrase strings together random words from a list of about 1,400 short, common English words. Six random words are easier to type and remember than a jumble of symbols and still very hard to guess. The strength shown is the entropy in bits, which assumes an attacker knows exactly how the password was made, and the time is how long trying half of all possibilities would take at ten billion guesses a second.
