Snowkit Shell

Work on your files by typing. Do one file or a whole folder in one line, right in your browser.

What it is

Snowkit Shell turns Snowkit tools into commands. Drop in files, then type a command such as pdf merge *.pdf or image resize *.jpg --width 1200. New files appear in the list on the left. Nothing is uploaded, and your original files are never changed.

Try it in seconds

Press Try sample files under the window to load a few photos, invoices, a log file and some JSON, with suggested commands to try. Type help to see every command, or ask followed by what you want, such as ask make these photos 1200 wide, and the Shell types the right command in for you to check.

Batches, pipes and saved commands

* picks many files at once. | passes the result of one command to the next, and > name.txt saves text output to a file. Long batches show their progress, and Ctrl+C stops them. Save a command you use often with alias pics="image resize *.jpg --width 1200", then type pics.

Work on a real folder

In Chrome and Edge on a computer, press Open a folder or type mount. The files in that folder appear in the Shell, and every new file you make is saved straight into it. Snowkit remembers the folder for next time. Type umount to stop. Your existing files are only replaced if you add --overwrite.

What you can do

  • PDF: merge, split, extract, rotate, compress, number, watermark, to-images, from-images, info, and Markdown to PDF.
  • Images: resize, convert and compress.
  • Data and text: jq, json, sql format, grep, sort, uniq, wc, head, tail, diff, base64, sha256sum and text tools.
  • Also: QR codes, colours, cron schedules, dig for DNS records, view to preview pictures and PDF pages, share for a link with your command typed in, export for a script, and run for a list of commands.

The Shell button in tools

Many Snowkit tools have a Shell button in their top bar, such as Merge PDF, the image resizer, the JSON formatter and the QR code maker. Press it to see the job you set up with the buttons as a Shell command, right inside the tool. Press Enter to open it in Snowkit Shell, where it can run on a whole folder, or copy it. Press Shell again to go back to the buttons.

Check a command before you run it

Found a command online and not sure what it does? Paste it into the Command explainer. It explains every part in plain English and warns you about anything risky, such as deleting folders or running a script straight from the internet.

The same commands on your computer

The PDF, Markdown, QR, JSON, SQL, text, colour and cron commands also run on your own computer with npx snowkit, from Snowkit for AI apps. Type export in the Shell to turn your session into a script for it.
